Direct flights to Stuttgart are available from London, Birmingham and Manchester, with dozens of budget flight opportunities, including both direct and connecting flights. Like almost all other German cities, Stuttgart suffered heavy bombing damage during the World War II, but almost all its structures were rebuilt, particularly the historic buildings. Stuttgart also is home to a large number of museums and palaces. The city maintains an expanse of green space, known as Green U. providing recreational opportunities for cyclists and hikers. Stuttgart maintains its impressive cultural heritage through the State Gallery and the State Theater. The State Theater is home to the state opera. It also houses three smaller theatres. State Theater productions include operas, ballet, plays and concerts.
The beer and wine of Stuttgart are world famous. Stuttgart’s annual Volksfest has beer tents like Munich, but also a French village. The Volksfest runs second only to the Oktoberfest in annual attendance. Stuttgart offers spring “Volksfest” each April after Easter. Other seasonal attractions for Stuttgart travelers include the Fish Market, the Wine Village, the Summer Festival, the Lantern Festival, and the Christmas Market.
